Massaciuccoli Oasis

Access

From Viareggio you pass through Torre del Lago Puccini (with a view of the coastline from the small village). Then follow the south until just before the motorway entrance, where you turn left into Via Traversagna. You then go straight ahead into Via Pietra a Padule and keep left here. After passing the hamlet of Alle Cascine, park in the widening at the junction with via del Monte di Balbano.

A short track runs along the lake of the same name amidst the low vegetation.

Description

The small village of Massaciuccoli offers a short equipped trail in the Lipu oasis of the same name. Proceed along the carriageway, turning left into Via del Porto until you find the entrance with some illustrative panels. The route is characteristic and has some sheltered areas with loopholes for a better view of the fauna, without excessive disturbance. It is possible to continue as far as the Butterfly Garden. Turning back, just above the parking area, you can admire the Villa dei Venulei: almost an open-air museum. It has the advantage of a view that sweeps over the entire area. Nearby is the church of San Lorenzo.
